Kings (Grosse Pointe) and Belle
Tire out of Fraser Michigan. At the age of 16 he moved
on to play Junior B hockey for the Motor City Chiefs
of the Central States Hockey League. That year Matt
took a sixth place Chiefs team in League play to the
semi finals of the Junior B national championship. It
was there that Ferris State recruited Matt to sign on
their roster for the up coming 1999-2000 season. This
would make Matt one of only a handful of players to
make the jump from Junior B hockey to the Division I
college ranks. It also made Matt the second youngest
player in the CCHA that year right behind Mike Cammerlari.(U
of M, L.A Kings). At Ferris Matt was one of 25 players
in FSU history to be part of the schools first ever
2002-2003 CCHA league championship and first ever NCAA
tournament bid. That year Ferris boasted an overall
record of 31-10-1 to place them among the top eight
teams in the nation. That year Matt also received the
prestigious Steve Banonis Award for most improved player.
Matt ended his collegiate career with a 2.05 goals against
and a .924 save percentage. Matt also played a small
stint of semi pro for such teams as the Miami Manatees
and Knoxville Ice Bears.
While at Ferris, Matt received his
bachelor’s degree in Secondary Social Studies
Education and a minor in English. After retiring from
hockey, Matt joined on to the Bandits staff to help
in their pursuit of goaltending excellence.
Matt has been working with Bandits
Goalie School Director Stan Matwijiw on and off since
1999. Matt has attended many Bandits camps as a student
and has been an instructor at Bandits since 1999. Matt
now plays an important role in developing Bandits Goalie
School into the premier goaltending school in North
America. |
