James Hamby grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan playing the majority of his minor league hockey at the AAA level for Honeybaked and Compuware. His minor hockey accolades include four state championships, and a national championship. In 2003 his Honeybaked team won the Quebec International Pee-Wee tournament championship. After attending Dexter High School, James played 3 years of junior hockey in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) before moving on to play at the collegiate level for Adrian College NCAA Division III.
While at Adrian College, James played a pivotal role in 3 NCAA Division III national tournament appearances, 3 regular season league championships, and 2 Harris Cup league playoff championships. In 2013, he had the highest winning percentage of all goaltenders in Division III NCAA (.956).
Coach and Academics
James earned his Bachelors of Business Administration degree in Marketing and a Minor in Economics from Adrian College in 2015. He has been a student of Bandits Goalie School under the direction of owner and Director, Stan Matwijiw since the age of 12. In 2008, he joined the school as an instructor.
In his current role as a Head Instructor at Bandits Goaltending School, James remains a serious student of goaltending, sharing his experience, knowledge, and learnings with the next generation netminders. James currently resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
